Mrs B Long

is an LEA Governor.

Hello - I was born and spent my childhood and youth in Sherburn not moving far away when I married in 1976, we now live in South Milford.

My contact with Sherburn has always remained through my parents (now both deceased) and friends; indeed I regularly visited Hungate School when my godchildren were pupils many years ago.

I have two children, now both grown up, living down south and an adorable grandson. My children have both graduated from University and are pursuing their chosen careers.

I work for my husband in his family Haulage Company managing the HR and administration departments, prior to that I worked in Schools and Nurseries throughout the Leeds area with children aged 3-12years.

My interests other than my family, friends and garden lie in the community, I have been a School Governor for over 20 years, 15 years at one school which was closed due to reorganisation and in the last few years serving at Hungate and two other schools in the area. I have served on two Parish Councils and also enjoy working with local groups that enhance the communities in which I live.

Mr K Devers

LEA Governor

I was born in Sherburn in Elmet and apart from the time spent away  obtaining academic qualifications have lived here since then.

My teaching career was in Secondary education starting at Pontefract and  finishing at Garforth Comprehensive School (1700 pupils). For the last  fifteen years of the time I spent there I was Deputy Headteacher with a brief period as Acting Head and was responsible for timetable, staffing  and finance. I took early retirement and since then my time sees to have been used to the full.

I am heavily involved with many aspect of community life and believe that the residents of Sherburn should have the best of everything. At the present time, in addition to being a governor at Hungate School, I am Chairman of Sherburn in Elmet Parish Council, Secretary of the Community Association, Vice-Chair of the Town Team concerned with the Renaissance project (which at present is on hold), Chairman of the Local Historical Society and I act as a volunteer delivering library books to

housebound people.

Until I was no longer able to do so I played tennis, being secretary of Sherburn Tennis Club and the Barkston Ash Tennis League for fifteen years. I am interested in the history of Sherburn and the surrounding area and an avid collector of old photographs of the area. I also have a

large garden and enjoy gardening when I have the time.
