Thank you for accessing the Sherburn Hungate Community Primary School web site and welcome ! I hope this web site gives you an appetite to know more about our school. If this is so then please do contact us to visit, meet with me and/or look around our school, of which we are very proud. Our contact telephone number is 01977 682434.

The Sherburn HeadmasterOur school sits almost at the heart of the village of Sherburn-in-Elmet serving about half of the village and the surrounding countryside. It has historic links with the local commu

nity going back to the seventeenth century (click here for Hungates History section). Thankfully we now have a  modern, spacious and well maintained building fit for children in the twenty first century including an "Early Years" room, an ICT (click for photos) room with a suite of sixteen computers and digital projector/interactive whiteboard teaching aids, and a very high standard of outdoor play resources for all ages.

Our aim is to provide your child/ren with a stimulating yet safe and secure environment where they will thrive and be happy. We believe in providing a broad and balanced curriculum that ensures your child/ren's progress whilst offering them meaningful challenges and opportunities which will help prepare them for their future whatever their abilities. The "School Prospectus" section will give you much more detail. Our curriculum provision is supported by extra curricular activities and residential visits in Key Stage Two. In recognition of our sporting curriculum and oppotunities for physical activity we have been awarded the ACTIVE mark by SPORT ENGLAND.

I must stress the importance we give to working with you and your child/ren. Parents will find the school supportive and we believe in involving you  both in setting targets to support progress and in having a meaningful dialogue about your chil/ren.  Parents also support the school in many ways including assisting during the school day and becoming involved in the "Friends of Hungate School". Meanwhile your child/ren's views are also important to us. School council  representatives bring issues and responses, from their own class councils, to our School Council which includes staff, parent and governor representation too. I frequently use the word our when referring to the school: our relates to the partnership of families, staff and governors that are crucial to make the school successful for your child/ren.

As I stated above our school has long historic links with the community of Sherburn-in-Elmet. I do hope this letter of welcome is the start of a long, productive and happy  association between you and your family and our school. I look forward to meeting you in the future.
