ARTS WEEK

17th - 21st October 2005

Our Arts' Week enabled us to challenge our children's creativity through dance, drama, music, story and art. The over-riding theme was 'stories from around the world', and each class studied a different country or culture; the week ended with a celebration assembly where we shared our work with each other. During an action packed week we were visited by a theatre group, a children's author, a musician and dancers - all of whom provided expert tuition and stimulus for further work in the classroom. In addition the children created a large mural, which is on display in the hall, depicting cultural imagery from around the word and a colourful sports frieze on the external PE store. Thank you to all staff who were involved in organising such a fantastic week.

HARVEST FESTIVAL

October 2005 - This year's lower key stage 2 (and year 2's from Mrs Butterfield/Mrs Devey's class) entertained us with a super harvest festival exploring where our food comes from. We thought about whether we pay poor countries enough for the wonderful food they produce and if some people in the world have enough food to eat. We found out that the poorest families come from Africa, where if their crops fail, children still die from illness and malnutrition.

Families provided a wonderful harvest display

During the Harvest Assembly the children explained how charities help poor families in Africa by providing them with a goat. The goat produces milk, which can be made into cheese and sold. The money raised helps support the family. We held a bun sale and raised over £97.00 which is enough money to buy THREE goats - well done everyone who baked or bought a bun!

SKIPPING WORKSHOP

21.9.2005 - To promote more healthy lifestyles, the children and staff were all treated to a skipping workshop. Each class enjoyed a P.E session by a skipping expert, from Skipping Workshops UK, and learnt a variety of skipping techniques, which will be practised during P.E lessons and playtimes. A skipping demonstration by pupils concluded a fun-filled and energetic day! All pupils have been given the opportunity to purchase a skipping rope.
