Welcome to Mrs Butterfield's and Miss Devey's Y2/3 class

Harvest

As part of our harvest celebrations, we wanted to raise some money for families living in Africa. We wanted to give money to the Farm-Africa Charity so that they could buy some goats.

We held a cake and bun sale to raise money. The children then wrote recounts of the event:

Harvest Bun Sale by James

It was held on the 6th October at morning playtime. We had to set out a table in the infant playground, if it was raining we would have had it inside.

The reason we had the cake and bun sale was to raise money for poor families in Africa. We put cakes, buns and biscuits on the table. Lots of children loved the cakes and buns. I had 6, Yum! The buns cost 5p or 10p. Finally Mrs Coates counted all the money – we raised £84. We can buy three goats (our target). HOORAY!

Harvest Bun Sale by Chelsie

It was held on the 6th October at morning playtime. We had to set out a table on the infant playground. It was a good job it wasn’t raining! We got the money box out ready. Then a whole crowd of kids came running to get some biscuits, buns and cakes. Amy Elsworth’s buns were gorgeous. So were Charlie’s cakes because his buns were spongy and they had cream inside. And his other lovely buns were chocolate muddles. They had chocolate on them and they were crispy at the bottom. The other cakes were absolutely crispy and scrumptious. The best buns were Amy Elsworth’s cakes. At the end of the bun sale there were three buns left. Mrs Coates said at first that we raised £83, then a pound came in and then we had £84. I had a good time because I was so excited.

During our Creative Arts Week the children found out all about Russia. They were able to see some traditional clothes, Russian comics, jewellery, ornaments and dolls.

The children listened to the story of Peter and the Wolf. They watched a ballet performance of the story, wrote some descriptions of the wolf and made puppets. Here are some of their wolf descriptions:

The Wolf by Joe D

Eyes as brown as a tree trunk.

Teeth as sharp as blades.

Tongue as red and deadly as blood.

Nose as wet as water.

Fur as fluffy as a teddy bear.

Tail as prickly as a nettle.

Paws as sharp as knives.

Howl as terrible as a world alarm.

The Wolf by Jemma

Eyes as blue as poison.

Teeth as sharp as a hedgehog.

Tongue as sweaty as a monkey.

Nose as smooth as a bunny.

Fur as soft as a hamster.

Tail as fluffy as a guinea pig.

Paws as rough as a tree trunk.

Howl as disturbing as an owl.
